In Spring 2018, I prepared a report as a product of the work I did as a research intern at Mount Saint Vincent University Art Gallery. In Fall 2017, MSVU Art Gallery hosted Bodies in Translation: Age and Creativity, inaugurating the gallery’s systematic engagement with accessible practices and audiences who are Deaf and have disabilities. In order to inform this ongoing development, the Gallery sought a student to assist with research on contemporary and historical disability arts and curatorial practices in Canada and internationally.
The report includes a text titled “From Integration to Emancipation: Curatorial Practices in Canadian Disability Arts”, a literature review, and a bibliography. In the spirit of a commitment to accessibility, I would like to share this document with anyone who is interested in expanding their knowledge-base surrounding disability and the arts. If you would like access, please send me a message through the “About” page.
