Emily Lawrence + Kylie Dyment
Emily is an interdisciplinary artist and facilitator based in Halifax, NS who recently graduated from NSCAD University in the Spring of 2017. Emily co-curated Nocturne 2017 with anna sprague and has coordinated several community projects, events, and exhibitions on behalf of arts organizations such as Eyelevel Gallery and the PEI Crafts Council. Emily is currently the artist in residence at the Macphee Centre for Creative Learning in Dartmouth, NS where she facilitates youth programs.
Of her practice, she says, “I use humour, food, and the five senses as tool for seduction and as conduits to the underlying cultural curiosities that fuel my work. Immersive environments, cleverness, playful design, and obsessive material investigation are the ingredients keep me full and satiated as an artist. Her practice spills out beyond what is commonly considered to be “the work,” slopping over the brim of any one medium and pooling into the des(s)erted nooks and crannies that surround it. I treat my wide-ranging practice as if I am a chef with my fingers dipped lovingly in every pot, diligently tasting each digit for conceptual parallels.”
Kylie graduated from NSCAD in 2016 with an Interdisciplinary BFA. She focused on performance, sculpture and eating a lot of snacks. Kylie now lives and works in Toronto managing a ~*supercute*~ bar downtown. Her dream is to open her own freaky/arty cocktail bar that will terrify anyone who seriously refers to Toronto as "the six". Her artistic pursuits “sip/slurp/chew/hug/wink/smirk/sniff/slap/pop/tear/squeeze/splat/shake/fake.”
